A winter camping spot you have to experience
If you are anything like me, camping in winter is where it’s at. Winter camps mean warm fires, clear skies, smaller crowds and a peacefulness that only a 2 degree night can bring. So, I am here to give you the inside scoop on one of the cosiest winter camp spots we have stayed at (twice now!).
Perched up on top of the Blue Mountains lies at town known as Katoomba and if you haven’t heard of it you have probably been living in a cave your whole life. From $42/night, this well maintained Hip Camp has everything you need for a comfortable camping experience. Blue Mountains Grass Tree Bush Camp is situated 2.5km north of Katoomba town centre and consists of 7 sites suitable for different sized groups/preferences. Roll out your swag, set your caravan up or snuggle up in the back of the van knowing this campsite allows your fur babies to be a part of the adventure, campfires are a must have in the provided fire pits, there is a toilet available and a DIY hot shower if you feel inclined. There is even a large grassed area in the centre perfect for kids to play, a smooth loop road around the outside of the sites where they can ride their bikes and heaps of native animals that come and go for them to spot.
You do need to be able to power everything yourself and come prepared with water but given that the shops are reasonably close-by, this is a great campsite to get into the groove of off-grid camping.
We have stayed at this campsite twice now and it was the second time where I really felt the spark of photography light up in me again. Creating art while doing something that I loved equally as much. If any of you end up booking at this camp ground, let me know what you think!
